Abstract

This study presents madrasas as educational institutions and agents of community change. Madrasas as Islamic educational institutions integrate religious sciences with general science. Madrasas are a synergy of Islamic boarding school learning systems combined with Western-style classicallearning systems. The existence of Madrasas has an important meaning for community empowerment and social change (progress) in Indonesian societydata collection techniques using interviews, observation, questionnaires and documentation. Based on the study results, it was found that the "religious commitment" of the people of Kartoharjo Village, Ngawi experienced significant changes. However, overall it was not optimal, especially in the Central and West Kartoharjo communities. The changes in a community culture that occur cannot be separated from the role of madrasas in assisting the community regarding the implementation of worship and religious understanding. This phenomenon shows that the presence of students and the achievements of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Muhammadiyah Kartoharjo, Ngawi, East Java has increased significantly.Keywords:Madrasah; Religious Commitment; Community Support
