Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of Wi-Fi rentals among elementary school children. The aim of this study is to understand the experiences of Wi-Fi consumers, Wi-Fi service providers, and parents in supporting their children's use of Wi-Fi rentals. The research method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The research subjects consist of 4 Wi-Fi consumer informants, 2 Wi-Fi service provider informants, 4 parent informants of Wi-Fi consumers, and 1 key informant from the village authorities (RT). Data collection techniques employed in this study include interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis is conducted using the triangulation technique. The results of the study show that the phenomenon of Wi-Fi rental has been ongoing for several years and is closely related to the need for internet access for learning, especially during the pandemic. After the pandemic, children widely used Wi-Fi rentals for gaming and social media purposes. The dominant parenting style is permissive, due to parents' lack of understanding in operating gadgets and changes in gadget usage habits after the Covid-19 pandemic.
