Abstract

WhatsApp is a messaging application based on mobile messaging for smartphones. The WhatsApp group "I Love Islam (Akhwat)" is an online WhatsApp group formed to participate in the study of Islamic religious knowledge and to cultivate righteous women with noble character, who are obedient to the commands of Allah and the Prophet. The process of selecting dakwah (Islamic preaching) information is crucial, especially for housewives in receiving information in the "I Love Islam (Akhwat)" WhatsApp group. Housewives, with their limited time for household chores, can adjust and enhance their religious knowledge or obtain dakwah information. This research utilizes a descriptive qualitative research method using data collection techniques such as interviews and environmental analysis. The respondents in this study are housewives, consisting of 10 respondents aged 27-55 years. The aim of this research is to understand the behavior of information discovery by housewives through four stages, namely the situation between knowledge of dakwah information in the past and present, cognitive gaps between one housewife and another, cognitive bridges built to bridge the gap resulting from lack of knowledge about dakwah information, and the outcomes of the obtained dakwah information. This research reveals that the information behavior of housewives regarding dakwah information, both in the past and present situations, is based on the need for knowledge acquired. The cognitive gaps of housewives are filled by selecting the most easily accessible information. Housewives have utilized cognitive bridges by using the internet, participating in religious gatherings and taklim sessions, and reading books to seek information. The obtained dakwah information can be applied in their daily lives and shared with others. Keywords: information needs, dakwah information, housewives.
